Burritos for the People

Burritos for the People is a free breakfast program that involves SCAR volunteers making and distributing burritos to the lovely folks of Spokane every Sunday morning from 9-10. This is a great way for community members to come together, volunteer their time, and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Through this program, SCAR is working to create a more equitable and just community for all.

Court Watch

SCAR’s Court Watch program involves trained volunteers attending criminal court proceedings and monitoring the actions of judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement to ensure that they are conducting themselves in a fair and just manner, particularly with regards to individuals from marginalized communities. The information gathered by the court watchers is used to hold the justice system accountable and to advocate for reforms that promote fairness and equity. Through its court watch program, SCAR is working to create a more just and equitable criminal justice system in Spokane.

Light Activism Team

The Light Activism Team puts justice into public view — literally. Using SCAR’s four gobo projection kits, volunteers project messages of solidarity, hope, and resistance onto buildings across Spokane during evening commute hours. Think bat signal, but for community vigilantes.

No experience needed. SCAR staff walk volunteers through setup at pickup, and the commitment is simple: 1–2 hours per evening for each day you have a kit checked out. Light activism is peaceful, legal, and completely non-destructive — projections leave no marks, just an impression.

Our goal is all four kits deployed across Spokane every single evening. That means we need volunteers like you. Browse the gobo library, reserve a kit for the dates that work for you, and help your neighbors know the community cares.
